The belief at AEF is that employees do not get and stay healthy just by chance. Efforts on a proactive approach create an extraordinary healthy organization. Creating a healthy workplace contributes to higher performance, improved morale, decreased absenteeism and a better bottom line.
The Health and Wellness element covers two distinct areas – Occupational Health and Health Promotion.
Occupational Health is defined as the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations. Occupational health is devoted to the recognition, evaluation and control of those factors or stresses, arising in and from the workplace which may cause injury and illness.

Health Promotion is defined as the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health. It is aimed at informing, influencing and assisting workers so that they will accept more responsibility and be more active in matters affecting their mental and physical health. The goal is to help the workers to move toward a state of optimum health which includes their intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being
AEFs Health Promotion Program consists of 3 levels:
Level 1 - Awareness - Examples of awareness programs include:
- health newsletters, pamphlets, bulletins
- HSE Day
- health screening (BP, cholesterol, blood glucose)
- lunch n’ learns and
- Nutritional and physical fitness counseling
Level 2 - Lifestyle Change - Examples of lifestyle change programs include
- weight loss program\contests
- smoking cessation strategies
- yoga/pilates classes
- fitness room
- table tennis
- massage therapy
- health passport
- steps program
Level 3 - Supportive Environment - Examples of a supportive environment include
- Level 1 and 2 programs and;
- flexible work hours
- vacation policy
- leave of absence policy
- corporate challenge
- company sponsored decaffeinated drinks/fruit juices
- health and wellness incentive policy and
- variable pay health incentives
